Birdsong's meadows and woodland form part of the stay rather than simply surrounding it. Short paths begin at the boot room, longer routes connect with neighbouring lanes, and the garden team records seasonal wildlife for guests who want to explore at a gentler pace. Spring is full of blossom and birdsong; autumn brings richer colour, quieter paths and the return of fires throughout the manor.
Old rooms, contemporary comfort
The original manor keeps its stone walls, generous windows and slightly irregular proportions. New work is intentionally quiet: crafted furniture, soft natural fabrics and lighting that lets each room settle in the evening. The timber garden wing feels more modern and close to the trees, giving guests a choice between the character of the house and the privacy of the woodland edge.
How to spend three country days
The first day is best kept close to the hotel, with lunch, a meadow walk and dinner under the old beams. On the second, guests might visit nearby villages before returning for outdoor bathing. A final slow morning leaves time for the orchard and a late breakfast. The hotel is deliberately small, so dining and treatments are most comfortable when planned before arrival.
